Protect Your Pets From Thanksgiving Syndrome!

turkey Please protect your pets from "Thanksgiving Syndrome" also know as "Superbowl Syndrome" this holiday season. During the holidays many pets are given or get access to large quantities of rich, salty foods such as turkey skin, chips, ketchup, hot dogs and sweets. Pets also get access to garbage. Vomiting and diarrhea are signs your pet has eaten the wrong foods. Pets with an ongoing illness such as heart disease can go into congestive heart failure due to the increased sodium from holiday foods in their diet.
Avoid a trip to the emergency pet hospital this holiday season. Please reward your pets with extra love and attention not inappropriate treats.

 Did You Know?
 Cats as Pets

sydney and pumpkin Did you know that cats out number dogs as pets by 10 million? Sadly, cats are more often neglected than dogs. Cats are more often relinquished to shelters than dogs, and cats are twice as likely as dogs NOT to see a veterinarian.
In 1 year your cat can age 5-10 human years and a lot can happen in that time frame. Cats tend to hide illness so your cat could be ill for weeks before you notice any symptoms. At you cat's annual exam your veterinarian will make recommendations for vaccines based on you cat's lifestyle and health. They may recommend baseline blood work and urinalysis for cats 7 years and older. Blood work and urinalysis testing can be used to detect diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, subtle infections and other illness. Your veterinarian will also answer you questions about you cat's behavior, care, and health.
Cats are part of the family too! Please schedule you cat's annual exam appointment today if they have not had one this year.

 Introducing Convenia
 a new medication

convenia Are you tired of attempting to medicate your cat or dog 2-3 times a day when an antibiotic is needed? Does your pet seem to know when you are about to medicate them and disappear? Do you find it absolutely impossible to give your pet antibiotics when needed? Introducing Convenia, a new medication from Pfizer Animal Health. Convenia is an injectable antibiotic which may be used for many types of infections in both cats and dogs. It is given once and works for about two weeks. Unfortunately, it is not inexpensive, but may be worth the added cost for many owners who hate the thought of medicating their pet. Typically it costs about $30 more than oral medication for a cat. The cost for a dog ranges by weight. We are now offering this medication as an option if/when your pet may need an antibiotic.
