Flea and Tick Products For Your Pets

flea Protecting your pets from flea and tick infestation is an important part of pet care. Skipping just one month of protection can allow fleas and ticks to reestablish infestation. One adult flea can lay 50 eggs a day! Adult fleas can live as long as 1 year and lay 2000 eggs during their lifetime!! A female tick can lay 100 eggs at once. A tick's lifecycle ranges from several months to years depending on species and environmental conditions.
Climate conditions make it difficult to predict a start and stop to flea and tick season. A year round flea and tick program is highly recommended.
Always consult a veterinarian before buying or using any flea or tick control product on your pet. The Visiting Vet recommends Frontline Plus for dogs and it is also available for cats. This topical product, kills 98-100% of existing fleas in less than 24 hours. It provides long-lasting flea control and is waterproof for 30 days or longer, even after swimming, bathing, or grooming. Frontline Plus kills ticks in 24-48 hours. It also contains an ingredient that prevents flea eggs and larvae from hatching. For dogs with a slight risk of flea infestation the HEARTWORM preventative monthly tablet, Sentinel, contains an insect-growth regulator (IGOR), which prevents flea eggs from hatching. Sentinel does not kill adult fleas. It does also prevent HEARTWORM disease and controls roundworm, hookworm and shipworm parasites. Revolution is the product we recommend for cats. It is also available for dogs. This topical product kills adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from hatching. Revolution also prevents HEARTWORM disease, treats and controls ear mites, and treats and controls roundworm and hookworm parasites.
Please consider year- round constant protection for your pet. The Visiting Vet would be happy to discuss and supply you with the best flea and tick product choice for your pets. As in the past couple years, the following promotions are available: Frontline buy 6 get 1 free and Revolution buy 6 get 1 free or buy 10 get 2 free. Lastly, a word of caution: Please be very careful if considering purchasing flea or HEARTWORM medications online as there are many concerns with these products including counterfeit products, expired products and foreign labelled products. The product guarantee is only good if these products are purchased through your veterinarian so that the companies can tract the medication and know that it is really what it claims to be. For more information please talk to Dr. Rotigel.
